Gullfoss Falls is open 24×7, throughout the year, and this includes the trail to the falls and the viewing platform.

The two parking lots at Gullfoss Falls are also open 24×7, all through the year!

However, the visitor center, which includes the restaurant and café, a souvenir shop and restrooms is open from 09:30 am to 07:00 pm (though these hours may vary depending on the season). Check here for the latest hours of operation.

Early Morning (Before 09:30 am)

You can expect much fewer visitors, and a more intimate viewing experience! A great time to view sunrise at Gullfoss Falls without jostling for a good vantage point to take photos.

If you time it to leave at around 09:30 am, you may be able to take a quick restroom break or grab some coffee and sandwiches – the restaurant and café usually open at 09:30 am.

Late Morning to Early Afternoon (09:30 am – 02:00 pm)

With the visitor center now open, and tour buses starting to arrive, expect crowds to build up and peak late morning.

Finding parking at Gullfoss Falls may be a challenge in peak summer season, so be prepared to circle around.

Pro tip: Check out the lower parking lot that many tourists may not know about!

Expect to see many other tourists on the trail as well as the viewing point, Gullfoss Falls is a must-stop on the popular Golden Circle route.

Late Afternoon to Early Evening (02:00 pm – 06:30 pm)

With guided tours moving to other attractions on the Golden Circle route, crowds will start thinning.

Sunset at Gullfoss Falls is an incredible sight, with the golden hour light casting a magical glow to the cascading water.

If you want to eat or use the restrooms before leaving, the restaurant typically closes around 07:00 pm, but hot food orders have to be placed about an hour before closing.

Evening and Night (After 06:30 pm)

Some tourists, especially the ones with rental cars, often come here to see the magically eerie effect of the Northern Lights (usually, in winter) over the thundering falls, a most impressive spectacle!
