Gullfoss Falls, Iceland

Gullfoss Falls Parking

With Gullfoss Falls being a must-stop on the popular Golden Circle route, you need to plan ahead for parking, especially during peak summer season.

Luckily, parking at Gullfoss Falls is thoughtfully designed, and you have multiple options.

The Google map below shows the two parking lots available, please expand the map for a detailed look.

Both parking lots are free, and are open 24×7 all through the year!

The restaurant is open from 09:30 am to 07:00 pm, but note that the kitchen for hot food closes 1 hour before the closing time.

The restaurant has an extensive menu for drinks and food.

Upper Parking Lot

The main parking lot, the upper car park, is larger (about 250-300 car spots), with amenities like a restaurant and café, visitor center, toilets, and a souvenir shop.

The parking lot is directly off Road 35, and with clearly marked signs, you simply can’t miss it!

The trail to Gullfoss Falls start from near the restaurant, a relatively easy hike to the viewing platform.

Since most of the tour buses park here, you can expect this parking lot to get busy.

For best Gullfoss Falls parking, plan on arriving early in the morning (before the tour buses arrive) or later in the afternoon (after most tour buses have left).

Lower Parking Lot

The lower Gullfoss Falls parking lot is much smaller, and serves more as an overflow parking lot.

Getting here is trickier, as the parking lot is not prominently marked with signs or on your GPS. As you approach the falls, look for the last right exit before reaching Gullfoss Falls.

There is space for roughly 25 cars, and a few tour bus parking spots.

The two parking lots are connected by trails, so you can get to the toilets or the restaurant from this parking lot as well.

A trailhead to Gullfoss Falls starts from this parking lot as well, and the distance to the viewpoint is shorter from here.
